Month of Mindfulness: Day 14

Congratulations on making it through week two of the Month of Mindfulness challenge! I’m interested to know how the past 14 days of meditative practices and exercises has made an impact on your life. Do you notice any changes? Do you feel more… centered?

Maybe the changes are subtle and you’re still getting used to the habit of meditating. It’s totally okay (and normal) to feel as though you’re still… the same.

Because… you are still the same! You’re simply… learning to be more mindful with your energy, words, thoughts, and actions. You’re becoming more focused and also more responsible for your presence.

Today, for day 14, I’d like to invite you to set a timer (anywhere from 20-60 minutes) for an uninterrupted session of artful, creative mindfulness practice. The purpose of this exercise is to connect with your inner creator and make some magic manifest at your hands. There is no specific style of art or creating that you are supposed to do; just allow something to happen!

Unsure of what to do? Here are some suggestions:

  • Draw, doodle, or sketch
  • Paint or pastels
  • Cook, bake, or prepare a meal
  • Sculpt or build
  • Wood-working or welding
  • Cut and paste crafts
  • Bead-work or jewelry-making
  • Knit or crochet
  • Write music

There are so many possibilities here! As long as you are creating something, tapping into your intuition, and remaining totally present in that moment, you otherwise have total freedom. It is said that when you are busy creating, having fun, and embracing your inner artist, you are tapping into your flow, a timeless space of endless opportunities. That old saying – “time flies when you’re having fun” – describes your flow state perfectly.

So get into it!

Thanks for participating in the Month of Mindfulness challenge!
